Vincient Van Gogh

Vincent Van Gogh is a  renowned painter known for his use of color and texture through visible brushstrokes. His most famous painting, Starry Night, was known for his swirling winds in the sky. One of the most important artists of the 20th century. However, he was not famous until after his death in 1890.

Jean Michel Basquiat

A self taught, outside the lines artist who persevered through a tough childhood. He created artwork that brought attention to being a African American in the 1980s. Used symbols of eyes and crowns to show power and attention. During his short life he brought a breath of fresh air to the art world!

Frida Khalo

This month we will be discussing Frida Kahlo, a Mexican artist famous for her self- portraits. She began painting when she was 18 years old after she was in a bus accident that left her bed ridden for many months. She incorporated lots of Mexican culture and symbols in her artwork; old and new. Her introspective behavior and her self-confidence are what make her so special to the art world.

Wassily Kandinsky

We have been studying Kandinsky, the Russian abstract artist.
We have been learning about the elements of art and discuss which ones are found in his compositions.

For grade 1-5 our artwork for this rotation is inspired by his work using line, shape, and color.

He is a very interesting artist who was a talented musician  and artist. As he grew up he became a lawyer and law teacher. When he was 30 years old he decided to go back to school for art and become a painter.

I think it is great to know that you can become an artist at any age!
